Hi! My name's Brittany and I'm new, both to the game and to Dreamwidth so I'm still trying to figure things out on that front so please bear with me if I mess something up.

Concept Line: Future cryptonaturalist, loves animals and creatures more than humans.
Classes: Charms, Potions, Transfiguration, C&M, Outdoor Magic, Animagus Studies, Non-Human Languages.
Extracurricular Activities: Appalachian History Club, Bowling Club, Film Club, Performing Arts Club (occasionally)

About:

From Riverton, WV. Her mom is a pureblood from the UK and is a member of the Parkinson family. Her dad's family are half-bloods that were probably purebloods from Germany way back in the day.
Her mom is a retired model and current celebrity stylist and owner of a chic high-end fashion boutique in SoHo. Her dad is the brewmaster for his family's brewery and a huge grump. She has two older twin brothers and a twin sister, Daisy, who's in Mothgarden.
Her dad's family owns Kreitzer brewery and farms, churning out German-style beer since the 1700s. They're like the American version of Ogdens, except with beer. The HQ is located in Pendleton County, WV, and they've been there since settling back in the 1700s.
Poppy is obsessed with animals and creatures and plans to be a cryptonaturalist and travel the world studying magical creatures. She has an old lazy cat named Mr. Chips that comes to school with her and a huge gaggle of animals back home including six other cats.
Bad at peopling. Not awkward or shy, just quiet and not really into being in the spotlight. Bad at starting conversations and tends to come off as standoffish. She'll speak her mind if she feels like it's necessary. Bad at getting used to strangers but once she knows someone she's good.
Quick to lose her patience and quit if she's not interested in something.
A little bit weird. She likes things that are macabre and eccentric and odd. She's into things like victorian memento mori and saving things like her cat's whiskers and baby teeth. She would definitely be a fan of the Garbage Pail Kids if she knew what they were.
Bad at muggle technology and gets easily frustrated with it. You can usually find her cursing at whatever they're trying to learn about. She's better with Magitech but doesn't always get to use it too often.
Plays a few instruments, mostly the guitar and banjo, but can also play the piano. Is an absentminded hummer. Occasionally performs at talent shows.
Loves reading and music, both from the wizarding community and the muggle community.

Hi Brittany!!! Welcome to the game! We all had to go through that awkward IJ-to-DW transition, no worries. ANYWAY, I'm Meggie, I have two characters currently and a third on the way.

Laszlo Pataki (this journal) is most relevant to Poppy as a fellow junior Deeplurker. He's, uh, an extremely odd guy, known for dosing innocent people with experimental potions. He's pretty shy and awkward, but maybe after a year+ they've gotten past their shared quietness. Initially her grouchiness would have made him retreat, but he appreciates the macabre. Fresh/soph year he was pretty bad about the stalking, stealing hair and taking blood samples thing, but he's cooled on that a little.

Valkyrie Horvat (

sugarnspite) probably won't bother Poppy too much! She's a suuuuuper sweet (but not really) senior Mothgarden and Quodpot captain. She's off in her own little world having an adventure and doesn't notice most of the younger students right now. She IS the Outdoor Magic TA, though, so she'll at least recognize Poppy through that!

Hi! I definitely need to play around with the settings more but I'm hoping I'll get the hang of it soon.

She'll definitely have been on her guard around him for the first year or so and was very much like this. But after seeing that he's chilled out a bit she'll treat him normally and like she does everyone else.

Tbh Poppy probably has her categorized in her mind as 'TA, not that important,' but she'll be respectful as long as Valkyrie is respectful of her.

Anthony De Witt is a Mothgarden Senior. He's on the varsity Quodpot and Quidditch teams and has a lot of stereotypical Big Man on Campus qualities, except he's a giant baby. He's also, literally, a giant. Or, at least, 1/8th Giant. He tends to get along with everybody, even grumps, and makes it a point to make people feel comfortable.

Their biggest shared interest is going to be C&M. Tony has a way with animals and all of his parents are in the cryptonaturalist field.

I'll throw Tony at her some time and we can see how they click!

Kermit Creekmore (

maledictorian) is a senior Deeplurk and Bowling Club president, so he definitely recognizes her. He's a bright, bubbly, social kind of guy and he has no problem being the one to start any conversations, even if he does have a hard time staying on topic sometimes. Kermit can definitely be a little much, but he's also bad at reading the room so he might not realize if he's being a little much for Poppy.

Mary Grace O'Malley (

crowhop) is a junior Wildgulch, cheer captain and secretary of student council. They share some classes, like C&M, but most especially Non-Human Languages. Mary Grace is learning Gobbledegook and I'm just imagining how chaotic it is in that classroom when they all get together for an oral exam or something. Mary Grace is a kind of loud, in-your-face kind of girl and she likes to tease and pull pigtails and not realize when other people don't get the joke. They might have had trouble getting along in the past? Mary Grace can butt heads with people but she won't let that stop her from teasing people in the future.

Aaaand Cedar Quackenbush (this journal)! Mothgarden sophomore! A weird child and not super relevant but! They're here!

This one is Chanel Addams, junior Thorntrail and Muggleborn. She is from a funeral home in Texas and she also really loves the macabre; this may be a thing to bond over. She’s a fashion goth and does taxidermy and casual hangs in the local cemetery. She is also president of the Arithletes and pretty aggressive when it comes to academic competition or someone messing with her twin, Armani. (She’s another twin!) Actually pretty aggressive in general so that may rub up against the cranky badly, we’ll see? But I could see them having stuff to talk about!

My second is Audrey Poke, a Mothgarden senior over at

andpoke. Looks like she’s in bowling and film club with Poppy at least! She is a kind of gentle mischief soul, fairly quiet, way big into divination, she’s the TA. Also way big into tattoos, she has a good temporary method if you ever wanna just SORT of piss off your parents. She may not have a ton to do with Poppy but will likely also talk at her because the bad news is neither of my girls ever shuts up.

Hi Lyss! The editing comments thing is a big win, as well as the inbox. I haven't figured out to set it to send me emails about comments tho so it's taking some getting used to.

Ahh, I love her, and the twins' names. I think they have a few classes so they'll definitely see a lot of each other. And Poppy also likes taxidermy but doesn't do any herself. I think she'd be amused by Chanel's aggressiveness as long as it was directed at other people? Other than that I think she'd really like Chanel and be friendly with her.

I think Poppy would like her! And the tattoo thing and has probably let Audrey experiment on her if she wanted?

although at her full power xen is everywhere to an annoying extent, i thiiiink imogen is slightly more relevant?? tho she and poppy are in different years they've got the same house going on and some like.... uhhh!! traits in common!! imogen is maybe not as shy -- she's "fun" but also a "mess" and prone to some attitude n prickliness as well. ADDITIONALLY, which i think could be ?interesting? her mother is also a p famous/household name supermodel :u maybe there could be a professional rivalry? or friendship? maybe poppy and imogen/the twins had occasional playdates or an imposed friendship or something as kids lmao idek either way they could be interesting to throw together! /morning ramble

There definitely could've been a friendship between their moms! Poppy's mom used to try to get her to socialize properly outside of her family for a long time so maybe the Kreitzer twins could've had playdates with the Rainwater twins? The Kreitzer twins were probably a bit wilder but their mom would've tried to get them to behave in company.

Hey Brittany! I'm Rin, and to echo everyone else, no worries about the transition to DW, you'll get used to it surprisingly fast and we can help!

I've got three kiddos here, this one (Pax) being the most relevant - she's also a junior and they have literally all the same classes, soooo, be prepared to see a lot of her!! She loves animals and bugs, but bugs the most, and is generally a chill person that's easy to get along with, and she tolerates bad-at-peopling people really well so I'm sure they could be friendly!

My other two have less direct connections. I just finished Holland Graves (

gold_digger), who's also in Deeplurk but a senior and pretty much lacking in overlap except that she also plays piano, though she will be interested in being partially friendly with Poppy since her mother is a Pureblood (if that's common knowledge). This is terrible. But she's a nice person, generally, and just wants to eventually be a fancy housewife.

I also have Harrison Hartshorn (

illtemperedhart), senior Wildgulch who's just a grumpy baking boy and is geeenerally not important. Technically she might have known his younger brother, (they went to Elflock Local, and his brother was at Peckenpaugh for one year), but Harrison's generally not friendly so he wouldn't have sought her out despite also being local-ish.

Hi Rin! I already like it so much more than IJ it has so many neat features.

Pax might be one of the few people that Poppy genuinely likes more than just tolerating her. Especially since she's in the same house as her twin sister. Maybe Pax can be like one of the few people capable of getting her out of her comfort zone. AND Poppy also loves loves loves doing her nails/having her nails done so there's another thing for them to bond over.

So, Poppy's mom doesn't really try to hide her maiden name or anything, so anyone who knows who the Parkinsons are will probably know that she's a pureblood. But she also doesn't go out of her way to shove her heritage in anyone's face. But the whole family think the Parkinsons are crazy and Poppy hates the whole blood status thing and will probably think Holland's just a little bit sad for wanting to just be a housewife.

Grumpy recognizes grumpy. Poppy probably leaves him alone but also wishes he'd share the baked goods.

Welcome! I'm Ben, and I've got two characters for you.

The first is Felicity Deverill (this journal). She's a junior Wildgulch, Quodpot player, and treats everyone like they're her friend (whether or not they are), so I'm sure she and Poppy will interact. Poppy definitely does not have to like her back, though. She's an acquired taste. Felicity is a misguided hedonist, always looking for happiness and fun but not always succeeding. I'd compare her lifestyle to someone who only eats sweets -- a series of choices in the name of being happy which actually leave her feeing sick. She's fun and silly and crude and encourages others to loosen up and be happy too. She comes from a cryptonaturalist family. Her dad is a cryptozoologist, her (now ex) step-mom is a cryptolinguist, and her mom is... well she doesn't know who her mom is except that she's a magical creature of some sort. (She's ex-step siblings with Tony De Witt, Mothgarden senior.) Anyway, she's big into animals and cryptids and cryptozoology. She and Poppy are also in animagus together and non-human languages and bolwing club and film club and performing arts club. Realizing there's actually a lot of overlap. Sorry, Poppy.

My second is Lionel Lovelace (

lionellovelace). He's less relevant. He's a senior Thorntrail and the Muggle Tech TA, so she'd know who he is through that. He keeps to himself mostly. He's a quiet, serious, and secretive person, who becomes consumed with whatever project he's working on. Sometimes to an unhealthy obsessive point. His current project (which he keeps under wraps) is trying to find a way to use glyphs and arithmancy to code magic. He sees the potential to combine magic and computer programming. He sees himself as a visionary and wants to disrupt assumed societal structures, namely a classism that exists around magic users and squibs. He'd love to find a way to democratize magic. TBD if he's successful or if he'll just lose his sanity trying. He's also big into poetry. Anyway, he's around.

I play three characters:

Oliver Goodliffe (

goodglyph) a Wildgulch junior. The Symbology TA, student council VP and a pianist, and although he is flirty and ostensibly outgoing, he is a great deal more awkward and anxious than he'd like to let on. He tends to struggle when forced to carry a conversation, so his interactions may be awkward with Poppy since she's quiet, but he means well.

Jupiter Quigley (

gasgiant) is a senior Thorntrail and Thorntrail Quidditch's captain and seeker. She is probably Too Much for Poppy, but that won't stop her from bothering her. :)

Hawthorne Quackenbush (

artistree) is a sophomore Deeplurker, pigment and paint mixer and explosives "expert." He's my newest child, owing to the fact that he and Poppy are in the same house, I'm sure they'll have some overlap in interaction, but he's...also a bit awkward.

Freya Norris is a senior Deeplurk and is also in Animagus Studies and Appalachian History Club, so she'll know Poppy, but otherwise there's not much overlap? BUT Freya also loves reading so maybe they can bond over books at some point?? Freya's mom is a librarian and Freya grew up believing she could be JUST LIKE her favourite characters in books, which somehow always seems to land her in trouble. Her current obsession is wanting to be a detective so if Poppy ever wants something "investigating" lmk!

i only have one character: ian fitzpatrick. he's a mothgarden junior, the MG cheer captain, and a force of nature in all the wrong ways. he's energetic, loud, enthusiastic about flexing, and is currently trying to be A Very Good Captain despite his historically poor judgement. imagine a giant puppy who doesn't know his size and is juST SO ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT EVERYTHING!!!

he doesn't have a lot in common with poppy beyond a handful of classes, but that's never stopped him before. i can't see them having many reasons to get along so — unless you have any ideas/suggestions, which i always love to hear!!!) — my suggestion is to see how they interact in play?

Eddy is probably more on her wavelength as he is also deeply Bad at peopling. He's a junior over in Thorntrail and they don't have much academic/club overlap but if Poppy is friendly with Chanel then Eddy is almost certainly awkward friendly with her as well!!

Merlin Pletcher (

merlinpletcher), this boy, is a Mothgarden Senior that wouldn't have much overlap with Poppy...except that they're both big into animals! Merlin wants to be a dragonologist specifically, but likes magical and mundane animals of all types and tends to prefer them to people. He's easily riled up and determined to prove how independent and capable he is, but if they can avoid rubbing each other the wrong way there's some commonality between them and I suspect that he at least respects her priorities. They're also in Animagus Studies together!

Aris Ahn (

arisahn) is my newest boy and he's a fellow Deeplurk Junior! He's...basically Poppy's polar opposite in terms of personality (bubbly, outgoing, requires attention to live, etc.) but probably sees her a fair amount since they're housemates and very much wants to be her friend. I have no idea how she'd react to him, but he'll definitely play nice and try to bond with her over music and stuff. Come play a piano duet with him Poppy~~~

Zadie Lovelace (

zadielovelace) is a fellow Junior gal and also a bit of a quiet-ish oddball. She's also a high-strung academic, the Potions TA, and a big mermaid enthusiast. I don't know how much overlap they'll have, but Zadie is drawn to people with stronger personalities than her own and, at least, probably thinks Poppy is Pretty Cool. If a bit intimidating.
